28 March 2009 Memorial Trophy
In like a lion and out like a lamb. It was fairly close to that today; certainly the earlier starters had the worst of it and by 'close of play' the flags were limp. However today is a day when the low-handicappers generally have it all their own way. And so it proved and, although out in the strongest winds of the day, the defending champions were to the fore again thanks to an inward seven under par. Leading scores: Rich Brown, Chris Drysdale, Stuart Smith and Keith Stuart (1.5) 58.5, Bruce Anderson, Craig Hay, Doug Pirie and Mike Thomson (2.3) 58.7, Stephen Allison, Steve Paterson, Ken Proctor and Stephen Rogerson (2.9) 59.1.
Hole-in-one
Whilst on holiday I received an email from Member Mike Donaldson triumphantly (it must be said) declaring his first hole-in-one in 43 years. He says he has been playing since he was eight years old though those close to 'the WBB' are questioning his arithmetic!! The success occurred at Joondalup Country Club in Perth W.A. where Mike spends most of the year. Apparently (!) he struck "a quiet 8 iron onto a severely sloping hidden green and in she goes". Sadly he was unable to celebrate in the time-honoured manner but those closest to him at Lundie will surely not let the occasion pass them by!!
Final Eclectic Scores
Well that's the eclectic over for another winter season. Top final positions are:

21/2/2009 eclectic scores.
Saturday 21st saw a fresh, windy day for competitors in the eclectic. The course was in great condition following the recent weather.
Scores:
A.Carstairs 38 pts, A.George 37, H.Dalgleish 36, I.Dickson 36 and D.Smith 36.
Owing to a computer system glitch the overall positions are not available.
7 February 2009 Monthly Medal
It was to have been a nine o'clock start but with a light snowfall and ice on the winter greens, the Medal was cancelled. With the congested fixture list this is not being played at a later date.
I know we are not alone in this situation but this winter has been the worst by far in terms of a frosted course. Winter greens much more often than not. As I write the sun again shines brilliantly - which means it's still pretty cold out there. When will it end? Think I'll B off to warmer climes!
31 January 2009 Saturday Stableford and Winter Eclectic no 9 (14)
'Twas a cold but clear day and, with the fresh wind from the South-east, conditions were different from most previous Saturdays. Chances then to improve on the eclectic and nobody achieved this more than David Nicoll, broken finger and all, whose two 2's and a par on the 9th saw a huge 4 stroke improvement. He has a decent lead in the handicap (14.25) section with a net score of 52.75. Andy George (11.25) is two shots adrift with Ron Kingett (15.0) on 55.0. Things are much more evenly poised in the Scratch section with Steven Meiklejohn, Grant McNab, Duncan Weir, and James Ross all on 60; three players sit on 61. All will feel there remain very 'gettable' birdies though at the end of the day Grant's inward half (presently 26 - TWENTY-SIX) may secure the prize. In the day's Stableford Duncan (1) took the honours with 35 points with several players on 34.
24 January 2009 Saturday Stableford
For those wending their way home in the early hours from the Burns Supper it came as absolutely no surprise whatsoever that today's play was to winter greens and so no competition took place. It was particularly galling as Friday had been clear as, indeed, was the following day.
23 January 2009 Burns Supper
In the opinion of very many this was "as good as you're going to get". It was truly a superb evening attended by in excess of 100. Without mentioning participants by name it will suffice to say that we are indebted to them all for giving of their time and considerable talent. And it was a fitting swansong for House Convenor Tom Somerville who retires from Council in March after tirless stints of service, particularly on the social front. Thank you ladies and gentlemen.
17 January 2009 Saturday Stableford
A stiff breeze but nowt compared to last week. And with the greens having had a trim and a roll yesterday all was looking very nice. Some excellent scoring too but the 'old favourites' led the way again. Leading scores: Gary Wilson (4) 39 points, Raymond Philp (3) and Duncan Weir (1) 36.
10 January 2009 Saturday Stableford.
After another frosty week it was a relief to have a mild Friday enabling full greens today apart from 12 (shaded and still frosted) and 13 (off all winter with work thereon and in the immediate area). So the Stableford score was taken over 16 holes on what was a wild day. Many retreated to the clubhouse ahead of schedule while some sensible folk never left it!! Leading scores all on 28 points were Grant McNab (-1), John Paisley (4) and Craig Maiden (2).
